X-Stitch Fanart- Miku Hatsune by missy-tannenbaum X-Stitch Fanart- Miku Hatsune by missy-tannenbaum
Hello! It's been a while since I last uploaded a cross stitch project, but this one was pretty big, so it did take a while to finish. It's of Miku Hatsune, the Vocaloid, which is something I really know nothing about. (I have a Vocaloid game on my iPod- VT Panel, but it's pretty much a harder version of Pokemon Trozei with Vocaloid pictures, so that doesn't give me any frame of reference.) The pattern started on 1337XStitch's Wanted forum, when Kai asked for a pattern of Miku. After a few posts, ACL (or :iconlittelmoonie:) posted a reduced size version of her, which I then took and turned into a Neo Geo style sprite (with a 16 color limit and everything), leading to this pattern. After deciding it was cute and looked fun, I ended up making it myself. The hair colors aren't perfect, but I think her boots make up for it.

This was stitched on 14-count plastic canvas with DMC floss. Also, I think it's worth noting that stitching an SNK style sprite (that I worked quite hard to design) of a Vocaloid character, puts me well in the running for my house's nerd prize for today.

The font used to stitch Miku's name is called "Robot" and came from better-cross-stitch-patterns.com.

Just looking at this give me an idea. :) With your permission, may I try to translate this stitch of Hatsune Miku into a bead art form?

Yeah, of course! I posted the pattern up on my blog if you want the link. The pattern refers mostly to embroidery floss colors, so it might be a pain to use in that regard, but having a graph might not hurt. I hope that your bead project comes out well, and I'm thrilled that you like the design well enough to give it a shot! ^^

May I get the link to the Hatsune Miku pattern through notes, please? :)

As for the concern, regarding the pattern, I'm not worried about it. I've done something like this from my former occupation. Plus, something wanted a pixelated art of Hatsune Miku, and he wanted me to make it. However, this one in the link, while it's fantastic, :)there's no way I'll be able to finish it in less than a week. :(

Woah, that's beautiful, though! I can't believe how good the shininess of her hair looks! It would take ages to do, though, so I sympathize. I opened a link to your page and will get you the link within the next few minutes. I don't use DevArt much anymore, so I apologize for how slow I've been with all this!

Well, for me, I use Deviantart on a daily basis. I primarily go to DA, to look up any good ideas for bead art. Yeah, Wacker00's bead work of Hatsune Miku is top notch, :), but unless I have like 4 other bead artists, I'd probably rage quit like halfway through the project.

Also, I know that you did the stitching of video game characters and thing like that. The strange thing about it is you could look at the stitching, and it can be translated into a bead art form. There's a group on DA that supports bead art. Here's the link to the group.

All right! I posted the pattern on a message board a while back, so it's right here: [link] and another user, DawnMLC, has a really cute smaller Miku pattern in the thread, too! That one is also quite nice to stitch, and only takes a couple of days.

ADSJKHASDKJASDHAD MIKU <3. I love this lots.

So do you plan on doing the other vocaloids? (Rin, Luka, Len, Luka, Gumi, Kaito, Luka. Did I mentioned Luka?)

Thanks very much! I was happy with how it came out, too. ^^ I do want to make another one, since I love the hair and outfits, but I'm not sure which one yet. Luka has gorgeous hair, though, and, as an added plus, I do have a lot of those floss colors. ^^

Well, I bought the floss to do a portrait of Hawkeye from Full Metal Alchemist today, so it wouldn't be today, but I saved a couple of images to see how patterns would turn out. The character design is really cool. ^^

Ah, cool, it's nice to see you on here, and your gallery is so cool, too! ^^ Without your original editing of the image, the pattern wouldn't have been possible at all, so I'll add a link to your page in the image description right away! Also, thanks very much for commenting and everything~!

Thanks same to you, it feel in away the world is small but it is really big. Seem to fine some you have seen on other places.

It could gone whith out my edit, but I think some would give up on it in the end. It look nice that small, and it suprise me that it end up so well in the end. How big did it get in the end when you were done?

Sorry for the bad english.

Oh, don't worry about your English at all- I've seen much, much worse!

As for the size, I think that she ended up being about 7 inches tall, which was perfect, since that's about the size a lot of my other projects are.

I can't imagine stitching her at more than 100 or so pixels tall, though, especially with all of the bright greens and blues, so your edit really made the whole thing possible, at least for me. All I had to do to make it into the pattern from there was reduce the color count a bit, and even that wasn't entirely necessary- I just wanted her to look like a character in an old arcade game. It was fun to work with the edited image, too, since you'd done the editing really well. ^^

That is great the it was not that far off from the size, that the person request then ^^ just a inch taller.

Well I do only big ones more or less -_- it end up like that for me. Need to find some of my staded projekt and find some of the threds too them, I have them somewere in my room but were it the question.

And top of that I startde a new one to day that are 200 pixel width and 147 pixel height. See how long I will take me to get tied of it. -_-

Ah, I have that problem, too! I always fold my projects and put them in folders, but then I can't figure out which bag of thread goes with what project when I want to pick it back up. ^^;

Good luck with your new project- that sounds huge! I started a new project on Thursday, but it's not nearly as big as yours- it's just 160 wide by 110 high. It'll probably be an on and off thing, though. :S

It is big, Care to tell me what the picture is?

I just hate the new one right now -_- but I am not giving it up, but I dont have all the thread at home for the moment, so I need to buy some. Well I do have the black at least and it is around 16151 stithes that shall be in black or that is what the program says ^^'

Ah, it's of two fighting game characters- Lilith from Darkstalkers and Kaede from The Last Blade- playing portable video games and being *very* cute, with trees and stuff in the background. What is yours of? That's a lot of black stitches, but sometimes, it can be good to get started with those. I am not too fond of mine yet, either, but I think that when I get more of the outline done, I'll be happier with it.

Nice.:) Cross-stitching is like pixel art in real life.

I've honestly tried it before but I sucked at it.

Oh, thank you! I really like pixel art, but if I do end up doing any of it, I like to cross stitch it just to get the pixels off the screen. Plus, in terms of video games, it's cool to have a pixel perfect fanart of them off of the TV screen/monitor, which always seems way more difficult to do on paper.

I've been stitching for a few years now, but for about 7 months, I only did really tiny projects because I'd screw up if I tried to make something bigger than that. It's sort of weird to get the hang of it, but once you do, patience is the most important part of the whole ordeal. ^^;

Yeah, I started off on much too complicated projects I think.
If I get good enough at pixel art, getting back to cross stitching is a must. :)

Thank you! ^^ I thought while I was working on it that one of the colors was a little off, but from the comments, I guess that wasn't the case, which I certainly won't complain about. ^^; All I have of Vocaloid is the free iPod app, and that's just a Pokemon Trozei knockoff, so I'm not sure it counts. Awwwesome, Miku's cool. I can tell you quite a bit about vocaloid if you'd like (I'm actually not that ignorant about it, unlike a lot of people on dA even though that sounds egotistical). You should do Rin and len sometime, they're my favorites. :)

Thank you! For my part, I'm pretty ignorant about it, other than the fact that they look cool and what I've read on wiki articles, so it doesn't sound that egotistical to me. Rin and Len do seem cool. I like the pair of avatars you have half of- I saw them close together on your page and they're *really* cute.

Well, it feels kinda egotistical saying it, because even a lot of the "vocaloid" fans on dA don't seem to understand the gist of the fandom and how it's completely run by its (Japanese) fanbase. XD

Thank you so much. : D

Well, I wouldn't call myself a member of the fanbase, as minimal as my knowledge is, but I'd always thought part of the appeal of Vocaloid was how, even though there were the computer programs and all, it was sort of a grassroots thing, with more fan created content than anything else (though I could be wrong about that). It always seemed cool that in doing a fan art of one of the characters, people were contributing to that character in a way that couldn't really be achieved in any other fan community, which was part of the reason why I thought it would be fun to stitch Miku. I'm pretty fluffheaded when it comes to these things, though, so I imagine I'm totally off base in regards to the whole thing. ^^;

Yeah, the fun about Vocaloid is how the fans get to decide most everything and there's no "canon". It's just that a lot of the fans (and I don't mean you, I sort of mean the kind of people who get in a fandom and don't bother to learn about it at all outside of the characters' faces XD) don't realize how 99 percent of the songs in vocaloid are created by Japanese people ranging from even 18 year olds to professionals. Some people don't even wonder how all the songs came to be and think they're all made by the company that made vocaloid, or something : D;

:iconmissy-tannenbaum:
missy-tannenbaum Featured By Owner Dec 23, 2009  Hobbyist Artisan Crafter
Well, that's really cool that even the songs are fan created! I know that one of them has Gackt's voice, so it must be really nifty for people who are big fans of the artist to go in and create things in his voice, and just in general, it's cool to have a tool to make music for people who aren't gifted vocally. If the company that makes Vocaloid have made so many characters and so many songs, though... they would have had to had been making use of the supernatural if that were the case. XD

On a strictly commercial note, the company that makes it must at least love what's going on with the fan base, sanctioned or not. There's no better form of advertising than piles upon piles of unpaid artwork done by rabid and talented fans!
