X-Stitch Fanart- PKMN Maid by missy-tannenbaum X-Stitch Fanart- PKMN Maid by missy-tannenbaum
Hello! Tonight's deviation from me is a cross stitch of the maid/waitress trainer from the Miltank Cafe in Pokemon Diamond/Pearl. She's a minor character, like my swimmer, but she was really fun to make! I had to cheat a little and use some backstitching, though, because when I switched the colors to make the uniform darker, it blended into the outline. Anyway, I hope that you guys like her! I hope to have my next stitched project (though I'm clueless as to what it'll be) done soon, as well as the art trades! (Denna, yours should be up tommorrow or the next day, I forgot to check the colors for her before logging off this afternoon! :( )

This was stitched on 14 count glittery Aida, which looks a little dull scanned, but in person, it's totally all the way shiny.

Well, to make one like this, I find the graphic I want to use, either in a screenshot from the game or as a sprite, and then load it into paint shop pro, where I overlay a grid that's at a size of 1x1 pixel, and that makes the pattern. As for the actual stitching, I'm not very good at explaining things, but for the most part, it's just putting x's on a piece of fabric divided into squares. It's interesting to do, but it takes way longer than I should be spending on this stuff. ^^;

Ah, I'm sorry! I thought I'd mentioned that it was from Diamond/Pearl, but I probably forgot. ^^; I want to make some of the Sapphire ones, though. The trainer sprites are always fun! :D

That's pretty neat... I like the unique way the character is carrying the Pokeballs. I never did get this game, so I haven't seen her before- you say that she's just like the Bug-catchers?

Yes, she is! This character is a little more specific than some of the other trainers, you only battle them in restaurants and maid cafes, but she does the same thing. There are piles and piles of trainers to battle, though, and it's really cool. All of the artwork for them is very unique. I'd be annoyed if I ordered dinner from her, though, and she showed up with Pokeballs. ^^

That is a little frustrating! It's a useful item, though, and it's nice that it's in the game. Plus, it's fun to use something other than potion all of the time.

Omg. I LOVE shiny things :D
Today i even bought tons of reflector tape - went to a random place that sells all this crafty junk like old packaging and bits of foam...i did go a bit insane :P

She is really cute though - i can't wait to get my DS for my birthday so i can play the game too!

That sounds like it would be a fun sort of store! Do you have any plans for the reflector tape, or is it the sort of thing where you just go in like, "Ah, that's so cool!" and buy a bunch of stuff? Either way, it sounds awesome. :D

It's like this big shed full of crafty rubbish. You pay $25 for a full garbage bag or whatever you want. Its a case of oooh pretty, i'll have some of that, and some of that :P
So yeah...i ended up with reflector tape in like 5 different colours, tons of fabric, elastic, a cork and some juggling balls :D

That is impressive! I've never heard of a store like that in the US, except for at a school carnival once when for a dollar, you could fill a gift bag with pencils and paper and other junk that a local distribution company was trying to liquidate. It would be really cool to go somewhere like that to get new craft ideas.

I want to play Pokemon now.... *left her DS at her boyfriend's by mistake*

Looks great, and the backstitching to designate the outline is fine!!! I love glittery fabric, but I've never been able to get it to scan or photograph well either... :(

Ah, thank you! There's some backstitching up by her maid hat (if that's even close to what it would be called), too, which doesn't show up, but her hat wouldn't show up at all without it. Glittery fabric seems to be worth the trade off in online display quality, though. I'm way more impressed by shiny things than I ought to be. :D

I missed the backstitching on the hat at first, but I do see it now (silly me!).

Yes, glittery fabric is so worth the trade-off for the in-person effect. How I love shiny things!!! It's really great to use too if you stitch holiday stockings - I plan on stitching this one on some glittery evenweave, when I can get my hands on it!!

That would be gorgeous when finished on plain fabric, let alone the shiny kind. It'll be a really cool project! Do you have to use waste fabric when stitching on evenweave, though? I've never used it before, and was curious about how it works.

Nope, evenweave's just like stitching on Aida, only it's done over two threads instead of one "box." There's a great example here: [link] I thought about doing a tutorial on it, but at that scale it's hard to photograph (though my new camera may be able to handle it...)

Thanks very much for the link! It doesn't sound nearly as difficult as I imagined it to be. I hadn't known before that waste canvas was even weave, either. The article overall was interesting, too, though I can't imagine using some of the materials listed in it. (300 dollars for a yard of fabric is so pricey, I'd be too afraid of ruining it to ever start a project!)

It's really not hard at all, once you get used to it! I'm glad that site was helpful for you :D

Yeah, $300 is a bit pricey...that's getting into the range of silk gauze, which you'd stitch over one (usually at 40 stitches to the inch), so you're not looking at a huge piece, but still.

Ah, that is cool, especially when you go to the safari zone and turn back to talk to him, and it shows him thinking about a fish and then he has a flowerpot on his head. :D I have no clue what it signifies, but it is on the short list of the best things ever.

Aww, that sucks! The costumes would be sort of labor intensive, though, since they look like they have piping and stuff on them, and the hair is more intense than that of the other grunts. (I don't know if this is relevant, but I would also be super nervous all day with that much white on, since I'd definitely get something on it.) You can always claim that you're only going as old school teams, though, and do some sort of evil genius supremacy snot act, like, "Oh, Team Galactic? Come on! We've been inflicting evil since they were wasting their formative years on Flock of Seagulls videos, and obviously taking them a little bit too much to heart...", too. ^^

That was one reason nobody wanted to be Team Galactic, the uniforms are crazy. The other three teams are fairly simple. Even the Team Magma hoods are easyer to contemplate than the Team Magma hoopskirts (for the female grunts) That, and it really looks like they are wearing ten tons of duct tape....which would be painful.
